Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland Announces Merger with the Community Land Trust of Greater Cleveland

Cleveland, Ohio – Today Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland and the Community Land Trust of Greater Cleveland today announced a merger that will build upon their mutually-shared mission to strengthen Greater Cleveland through sustainable homeownership and community stabilization.

The merger will add the affordable homeownership program of the Community Land Trust of Greater Cleveland (CLTGC) to the range of successful programs of Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland (NHSGC).  In its 35-year history, NHSGC has provided clients access to sustainable homeownership, including pre-purchase education, rehab lending, foreclosure prevention and reverse mortgage counseling.

For the past 10 years, the CLTGC has helped low- and moderate-income families purchase quality homes through a land-lease mechanism that preserves the community’s investment for future buyers and strong homeowner support. The land trust’s work is based on a nationally successful model that has helped stabilize communities around the country.

“We’re excited about this opportunity”, stated Lou Tisler, Executive Director of NHSGC. “This merger allows us to increase the range of homeownership services available to residents of northeast Ohio.  At a time when mergers and collaborations are being prescribed by various funding sources, having this merger grow organically between the two organizations will lead to even greater success”.

The Boards of Directors of NHSGC and the CLTGC, as well as the CLTGC membership, have voted unanimously to merge the two organizations. Each organization has served the community with a mission of sustainable homeownership and working in communities of need.

CLTGC’s Executive Director, Marge Misak, has joined the staff of NHSGC bringing with her a deep understanding of the Community Land Trust approach and a strong network of national connections. Several CLTGC board members, including Piet van Lier, Delores Watson, and Amy Kulisheck are also joining the NHSGC Board of Directors, adding even more to the new organization’s capacity to help build a better future for Greater Cleveland, and moreover Northeast Ohio.
